What’s on In Newcastle for Christmas 2021

There are plenty of things going on in and around Newcastle during the festive period

Looking for things to do in Newcastle this Christmas? Don’t worry, you’re going to be spoilt for choice! Thankfully, this year things are starting to feel like they are almost getting back to normal, which should hopefully make for a more exciting festive period!

In this blog post, we’ll cover a range of Christmas activities that you can get involved with in and around Newcastle.

Hadrian’s Tipi – Stack

Stack has been a fantastic addition to Newcastle nightlife since it was created a few years ago, and it should hopefully get the festive atmosphere that the venue deserves this year. Hadrian’s Tipi is the winter addition to Stack, a pop-up tent that is bound to cater to your festive needs. With an open log fire, cosy seating arrangement, and a variety of drinks including mulled wine and cider, Hadrian’s Tipi is a must-visit for anyone fancying a Christmas beverage or two!

Pizza Making with Santa – Holiday Inn Jesmond

A bit left field, yet enjoyable for all the family – who knew pizza could be festive? Well apparently, it can, with Santa himself coming down to the Holiday Inn Jesmond throughout December to lead pizza cooking classes. In addition to the pizza making, the children will also get the opportunity to meet Santa personally and receive a Christmas present.

Fenwick Christmas Window

Drawing in crowds from all over the North East and beyond, the Fenwick Window is a popular attraction year on year and is always an impressive sight to see. 2021 sees the 50th edition of the spectacle and the theme this year is Shaun the Sheep. Located on the bustling centre of Northumberland Street, the Fenwick Christmas Window can be seen up until the end of December.

Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh Castle

Always a popular place for the whole family, Bamburgh Castle is a great place to visit over the festive period. What’s better, they’re currently running a ‘Saints & Angels’ special event, with the entire castle being filled with dazzling décor, towering floral arrangements, and a whole load of other Christmas-themed fun!

If you’re planning on taking the little ones, Bamburgh Castle are also offering tickets to meet Santa, in which you’ll receive a personalised magical experience and a special gift exclusive to the Castle.

Winter Wonderland – Newcastle Racecourse

Another event that can provide entertainment for all ages, Winter Wonderland returns to the racecourse as Newcastle’s biggest winter fair. With a wide range of rides, rollercoasters, and game stalls – there’s no shortage of entertainment, with tons of prizes to be won.

There’s also a variety of different street food stands to cater to everyone’s taste buds. It’s not just traditional Christmas food available, there are international food options and plenty of desert stands for those with a sweet tooth.

In addition, for those who are fans of ice skating, there’s a rink set up for you to skate until your heart’s content!

Alnwick Garden

A bit further afield, but a spectacle of entertainment all the same – Alnwick Garden are putting on a Christmas Light trail for the month of December. If you want to be amazed by illuminating visuals and beautiful scenery, this could be the festive event for you. There’s also the option to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea, as well as a bit of Christmas shopping at the Pinery.

Santa’s Grotto – Grainger Market

If you’re after the authentic Father Christmas experience for the kids, you might want to take a visit to Santa’s Grotto at Grainger Market. With slots available until Christmas Eve, there’s plenty of time to get your ticket ready for the North Pole passport control! With Santa’s full set up and a team full of elves, visiting the Grotto is sure to add a little bit of magic to your Christmas and will have the little ones beaming with festive cheer!

Glow Tours – Quayside

This one likely isn’t going to be everyone’s slice of Christmas Cake, but CBK adventures are offering you the chance to take to the Quayside via a kayak and enjoy the spectacular urban light show whilst having a paddle around the historic river. If you’re happy to face the cold and want to do something a bit different, a bit of kayaking whilst watching the quayside illuminations may quench your thirst! If it helps, you’ll also receive a complimentary drink at Gino D’Acampo’s Bar at the INNSIDE hotel afterwards!

If you’ve been stuck for plans this Christmas, hopefully, this list has given you some food for thought!
