Gosforth is one of Newcastle’s most desirable suburbs and part of its popularity is down to its close proximity to the city centre but also the fact that it is surrounded by plenty of green spaces where residents can enjoy nature. The area is home to a total of four golf courses, each of which presents its own unique features and benefits – from interesting courses to open access for members and non-members alike. City of Newcastle Golf Club
Situated right in the middle of Gosforth, the City of Newcastle Golf Club was first founded in 1891 – although it didn’t find its permanent home until 1907 when it took over the Grange Farmland.
The original course was designed by professional golfer Harry Vardon, and while much of the course was redesigned in 1962 some of the early influences remain the same. Ranked as one of the top golf courses in the Northeast of England, this course and its onsite club have hosted a number of county tournaments over the years.
Both members and non-members can book time on the course, with non-members able to book beginner lessons in blocks of 5 weeks as well as simple tee time.
And it’s not all golf and tees. The clubhouse at the City of Newcastle Golf Course is a popular private function space that can be hired for all manner of events, offering a great view over the 1st and 18th holes of the course. An added bonus for wildlife lovers is that the course and its various habitats are home to a range of wildlife and birds.
Parklands Golf Club
An 18-hole golf course in Gosforth, Parklands caters to all ages and abilities and also offers an 18-hole mini golf course onsite for those seeking a beginners insight into golf as an activity.

With membership packages which are suitable for long term and temporary passes – from the 5-day membership package to an associate membership – Gosforth Golf Club started life as a 9-hole course back in 1906 before it was extended and remodelled in 1924.
Time on the course can be booked online, by selecting the correct area as a visitor or member.
Northumberland Golf Club
